First-Time Setup Checklist for a New WordPress Site
After installing and connecting LessFlux, the next step is making sure everything is set up correctly so optimization actually runs as expected.
This checklist walks you through the minimum steps required to get real results. If you skip parts of this, the plugin may be active but not doing anything useful.
1. Make sure your API connection is active
Before anything else, confirm that your API token is connected and validated.
- Go to the LessFlux plugin settings
- Check that the API token is saved
- Make sure there are no connection errors
If the API is not connected, no files will be processed.
2. Enable optimization on upload
This is what ensures that new images and videos are automatically optimized as you upload them.
- Find the setting for automatic optimization
- Enable optimization on upload
Without this, new media files will remain unoptimized unless you run bulk optimization manually.
3. Decide how files should be handled
LessFlux can either replace original files or keep them and serve optimized versions separately.
- If you want a simpler setup, enable replacing originals
- If you want a backup, keep originals and use optimized versions alongside them
This decision affects how your media library behaves and how much storage you use.
4. Upload a test image
Do not assume everything works just because the plugin is active. Always test.
- Upload a new image in the Media Library
- Wait a few seconds for background processing
LessFlux works asynchronously, so optimization is not instant.
5. Check the optimization result
After uploading a test image, confirm that it was actually processed.
- Check the LessFlux logs or status indicators
- Look for a successful optimization status
- Confirm file size reduction if visible
If the image was not processed, something in the setup is missing.
6. Run bulk optimization for existing media
If your site already has images or videos, they will not be optimized automatically unless you run bulk optimization.
- Go to the bulk optimization section
- Start a bulk process for existing files
This runs in the background and does not require you to keep the page open.
7. Enable CDN delivery
CDN delivery improves how fast optimized files are served to visitors, especially from different regions.
- Enable CDN in the LessFlux settings
- Check that URLs are being delivered through the CDN
Without CDN, files are still optimized, but delivery may not be as fast.
8. Verify that changes are visible on the front end
Once optimization is complete, check your website.
- Open a page with images
- Inspect loading behavior
- Confirm that optimized or CDN-served files are being used
If nothing looks different, it usually means optimization is not running or files are not being replaced.
9. Understand that processing is not instant
LessFlux processes files in the background. This means:
- files may take time to be optimized
- bulk operations may run over several minutes or longer
- you do not need to keep the browser tab open
This is normal behavior and not a sign that something is broken.
10. Confirm everything before moving on
At this point, you should have:
- a connected API token
- automatic optimization enabled
- a successful test image
- bulk optimization running or completed
- CDN delivery enabled (optional but recommended)
If all of these are working, LessFlux is correctly set up and running.
From here, you can move on to fine-tuning settings or understanding quotas and optimization limits.
