Optimize New Images Automatically on Upload

LessFlux can automatically optimize new images as soon as they are uploaded to your WordPress Media Library. This helps keep your website lighter and faster without requiring manual compression after every upload.

What Automatic Image Optimization Does

When automatic image optimization is enabled, LessFlux detects supported image files uploaded to WordPress and sends them to the LessFlux optimization engine for processing. The image is optimized externally and then returned according to your selected settings.

This allows you to maintain optimized media files from the moment they are uploaded, helping improve storage efficiency, page speed, and bandwidth usage without adding extra work to your publishing workflow.

How to Enable Automatic Optimization on Upload

  1. Open your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Navigate to LessFlux → Image Settings.
  3. Enable Automatically optimize images on upload.
  4. Select the image formats you want LessFlux to process.
  5. Review your image conversion, metadata, lazy loading, and replacement settings.
  6. Save your changes.

Once enabled, all newly uploaded supported images will be processed automatically according to your configuration.

What Happens After an Image Is Uploaded

When a new image is uploaded, WordPress first generates the required image sizes for your theme, plugins, and media settings. LessFlux then processes the image and its generated sizes based on the rules you have configured.

Because optimization takes place externally, your web server is not responsible for the compression workload. This reduces server resource usage and allows image processing to continue independently of your hosting environment.

Supported Image Formats

LessFlux can process the image formats that are enabled in your plugin settings. Depending on your configuration, this may include JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, and SVG files.

If image conversion is enabled, JPEG and PNG images can also be converted into modern formats such as WebP to further reduce file size and improve delivery efficiency.

Does This Optimize Existing Images?

No. Automatic optimization only applies to images uploaded after the feature has been enabled.

If you want to optimize images that already exist in your WordPress Media Library, you should run a bulk optimization task from within LessFlux.

How to Confirm It Is Working

After enabling the feature, upload a new image to your Media Library and check its optimization status within LessFlux. You can also review the optimization logs to confirm that the file was successfully processed.

If images are not being optimized, verify that:

  • Your API token is valid and connected.
  • Automatic optimization is enabled.
  • The uploaded file format is selected for processing.
  • Your account has available optimization quota.

For most WordPress websites, automatic image optimization should remain enabled at all times. This ensures that every new image added to your website is processed consistently without requiring manual intervention.

For websites importing large numbers of files or performing media migrations, it may be useful to review your settings and available quota before beginning large upload operations.
